IGP Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has assured the nation of the Force’s commitment to securing the public space and maintaining democratic ideals ahead of the Anambra State Gubernatorial Election on November 6th, 2021.
The assurance was given today, October 13th, 2021, during a strategic meeting with Commanders of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadrons across the country at Force Headquarters in Abuja, as part of efforts to specifically contain the activities of criminal elements in the South-East and to ensure a safe and secure environment for the elections.
The IGP further indicated that the Force’s leadership has begun the reorganization, re-equipment, training, and re-orientation of the PMF with the purpose of enhancing the unit’s operational capabilities and re-positioning it to combat violent crimes in the country. The IGP ordered the Squadron Commanders to step up their supervising roles to ensure that their soldiers carry out their duty with professionalism, firmness, courage, and respect for human rights.
The IGP stated that the Nigeria Police Force will be implementing a robust national security action plan in the coming days to refocus the country’s internal security dynamics, as well as securing the electoral processes in the Anambra State Gubernatorial election, including the protection of INEC personnel and materials, as well as critical national infrastructure. The IGP stated that the Police Mobile Force, as is customary, will be a key component of the operational plan in order to dissuade any subversive groups that may endanger or disrupt the election’s smooth conduct.
The IGP stated that the Force will continue to do everything in its ability to battle all forms of criminality and violent crimes across the country, including banditry, abduction, armed robbery, cultism, and violent extremism..
