Arnaut Danjuma, a Villarreal forward, has explained why he left Nigeria for the Netherlands.
Danjuma was rumored to be considering switching allegiance to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the past. However, Louis Van Gaal has called up the former Bournemouth winger to the Dutch senior team for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Gibraltar.
After being inserted in the second half, the 24-year-old scored his first goal for the Oranje in a 6-0 triumph over Gibraltar.
“I feel Dutch and I’ve always wanted to play for the team that I love,” Danjuma said after the game.
“Nigeria is a country I like, but I see playing for them as a backup plan if I don’t get my chance here.” I’m here right now, and I want to make the most of it.”
Danjuma was born to a Nigerian mother and a Dutch father in Lagos, Nigeria. After spending several years in Nigeria, his family relocated to the Netherlands.
